There is nothing I love more than receiving samples or prototypes to the studio. It’s like Christmas morning every single time. CKD is launching limited edition tableware. We are still at the sample phase - I’m not loving the print quality or the weird blue outlines, but I thought I’d give you a sneak peek! Other than that, life lately has been filled with friends. Hope you guys had a great weekend. x C

A good friend of mine who I met in ny has moved back from San Fran and got herself a beautiful spot in Muskoka for the summer. She’s a very talented ux designer who is working from her cute window overlooking Lake Joe. It’s wild how life has changed. When would it ever be appropriate to do your work from Zoom. Mich and I worked all day, drank wine at night and danced in the living room to our fav songs. It’s important for me to mix in that girlfriend time. She also sat down with me one night and went through my website & made some changes to enhance my user experience. We talked about google analytics and how to improve the flow of my website. I thought, how cool is it that I have people in my life who would take the time to help me. In exciting news, things are starting to get busy again for CKD. The bespoke projects that were put on hold are finally ramping up again. Feels nice to jump back into my work again.

A couple days spent in the land of the french was a much needed break from Toronto. My suppliers are in Montreal. It was nice to take the time and see them face to face. When life gets really busy it’s all over email and well, it’s much more fun to chat over wine. I’m back in the studio and silently planning my next escape. This covid life is really depressing. I’m SO ready to get rid of those masks and get on with living. I refuse to accept this “new normal” or whatever the media is calling it. MASKS AREN’T NORMAL. They ruin your makeup, and they make it impossible to wear lipgloss. Anyway, happy weekend xx

Home from a weekend in Sauble Beach. The newest June Motel is stunning. My mom, sister and I had a really great time, the perfect weekend away. I’ve never been to Sauble Beach before and loved the vibe. The first night there we brought food from Heydays (delicious) to the room, put on our comfy sweatshirts, sat on our balcony with wine watching the rain. It was simple and perfect. The second night was spent on their patio tables under the hanging lights with artist and friend Christine Flynn, her husband Neil and new friends Annie and Emma. We stayed up late drinking wine. It’s been a while since I laughed as hard as I did. I really missed meeting new people.
Their custom oversized waves look great in the rooms. For the first time ever we are selling their bespoke print by the roll in their shop. I can’t wait to go back. The beach makes everything better. Thank you ladies for a great weekend. xC

Since I was a kid I wrote in journals. They started with collaged images of camp pictures and dance competition inside jokes. Now my journals look like pages filled with scribbled handwriting that I can hardly read. Writing has always been an outlet for me. It’s no surprise that I have been blogging on this for the past 10 years. Still collecting pictures. I was gifted that computer from Microsoft. I am an Apple user. To be honest I didn’t know what I would do with it. I am currently writing on it right now and I love the way the keyboard feels under my fingertips. It has become my writing computer. I continue to write on “life” in hopes to one day turn all of these blog post into a book one day filled with pictures. Who knows! anything can happen.

I like to wake up early, but that usually means I don’t speak until I have my morning coffee and move slowly from my bed to my home studio to start answering emails. Switching up my scenery with travel has been my escape and a way for me to change up the “routine”. I am affected creativity by my surroundings, the same space for almost 6 months has brought some challenges to my creative process. I found myself sleeping in longer than I usually do, I felt lazy with nowhere to go but to dinner or a friends house. Working out more wasn’t working. So I decided to start walking. I walk 30 minutes to my morning coffee and by the time I walk my 30 minutes home I am a coffee filled happier person. The first couple mornings felt annoying and hot and sticky, but as the days went on I started to notice how the light at 8 am hits the trees differently than at 9 am. Recently the corners of leaves have started to change colour. The mornings are starting to get a little colder, and the air is starting to smell like fall. It feels like I’m walking with the flow of mother nature’s cycle, noticing the slightest of changes each day that I otherwise would have never noticed. It sounds so simple, but fresh-air in the morning with just me and my thoughts sets the tone for my day. The greatest lesson I have learned this past month and a half of walking is that even though you may not see it progress and change is happening all around us constantly. It’s subtle and quiet and only when you pay attention and be present you’ll see it.
